چکیده

The impact of routing policy on Internet paths is poorly understood. In theory, policy can inflate shortest-router-hop paths. To our knowledge, the extent of this inflation has not been previously examined. Using a simplified model of routing policy in the Internet, we obtain approximate indications of the impact of policy routing on Internet paths. Our findings suggest that routing policy does impact the length of Internet paths significantly. For instance, in our model of routing policy, some 20% of Internet paths are inflated by more than five router-level hops. Keywords—Routing, Routing Policy, Policy Routing, Internet Paths

Internet Topology: Discovery and Policy Impact

We cannot begin to understand the large-scale structure of the Internet without accurate representations of the Internet topology. Mercator is a program that uses hop-limited probes—the same primitive used in traceroute—to infer an Internet map. It uses informed random address probing to carefully explore the IP address space when determining router adjacencies, uses source-route capable router...

Efficient Inference of AS-Level Paths in the Internet

Routing protocols maintain connectivity of Internet routers and hosts and determine the path that a packet traverses. Inferring Internet paths is critical for evaluating the performance of Internet applications and services, such as cloud services and content delivery. Unlike intra-domain routing protocols, which typically use the shortest paths, inte-domain routing protocol apply local policie...

A mathematical model for the electric vehicle routing with time windows considering queuing system at charging stations and alternative paths

Due to many damages that human activities have imposed on the environment, authorities, manufacturers, and industry owners have taken into account the development of supply chain more than ever. One of the most influential and essential human activities in the supply chain are transportation which green vehicles such as electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to generate higher economic and enviro...

Quantifying the Causes of Path Inflation

Researchers have shown that the Internet exhibits path inflation – end-to-end paths can be significantly longer than necessary. We present a trace-driven study of 65 ISPs that characterizes the root causes of path inflation, namely topology and routing policy choices within an ISP, between pairs of ISPs, and across the global Internet. To do so, we develop and validate novel techniques to infer...

Triangle Inequality and Routing Policy Violations in the Internet

Triangle inequality violations (TIVs) are the effect of packets between two nodes being routed on the longer direct path between them when a shorter detour path through an intermediary is available. TIVs are a natural, widespread and persistent consequence of Internet routing policies. By exposing opportunities to improve the delay between two nodes, TIVs can help myriad applications that seek ...
